The biggest difference: when location is shared
Life360 describes its core feature as knowing where your people are “in real-time, all the time.” If constant visibility is what your family wants, that's what it's built for.
SafeLoop starts from the opposite question: which moments actually need watching? Each zone (school, practice, home) has its own days and times, and zone alerts only fire inside those windows. Guardians see live location while a member is inside a zone and, on paid plans, the route while they're moving. They don't see where a member is while they're stopped somewhere outside every zone.
Members get their own Transparency page that lists what guardians can and can't see, and every alert that was sent about them. Kids join by scanning a QR code and turn on sharing themselves.
Privacy and data
Life360's privacy policy (last modified August 26, 2026) says:
“we license certain information, including precise geolocation data (which is ‘sensitive’ personal data under certain State Privacy Laws) to select business partners for their own advertising and monetization purposes.”
It also says Life360 does “not share or sell personal information of members we know to be under 18, nor do we show ads in Child or Teen accounts,” and that adults can limit this sharing through privacy controls in the app.
SafeLoop's privacy policy says we do not sell, trade, or rent personal information, and we don't serve ads to anyone. Raw location points are deleted automatically after 7 days, and street-level trip paths after 30 days.
Where Life360 does more
Life360 is the bigger, more established product, and its paid tiers bundle services SafeLoop doesn't offer: emergency services dispatch, 24/7 roadside assistance and towing, individual driver reports, Tile item tracking, pet GPS, and protections such as stolen phone coverage, stolen funds reimbursement and ID theft protection. It also keeps up to 30 days of location history. If those matter to you, Life360 may be the better fit.
What SafeLoop adds
- Schedules on every zone, with grace periods and late / left-early alerts.
- Passes: a kid asks to go somewhere unplanned, a guardian approves with one tap, and the schedule changes for that day only.
- Tamper alerts (Standard & Pro): guardians know if the app is removed, GPS is turned off, or permissions change during active hours.
- School pickup: at participating schools, parents check in from the pickup lot and staff release students from a live queue. See SafeLoop for Schools.
Questions
Is SafeLoop cheaper than Life360?
On listed US monthly prices as of October 6, 2026, yes: SafeLoop's paid plans are $4.99 and $9.99 per family per month; Life360's are $9.99, $16.99 and $24.99. Both have a free plan. Life360's higher tiers include services SafeLoop doesn't offer, such as roadside assistance and emergency dispatch.
Does Life360 sell location data?
Life360's privacy policy (last modified August 26, 2026) says it licenses "certain information, including precise geolocation data" to "select business partners for their own advertising and monetization purposes," and that this may count as a "sale" under some state privacy laws. The same policy says Life360 does not share or sell personal information of members it knows to be under 18, and offers in-app privacy controls to opt out. SafeLoop does not sell personal information and shows no ads.
What is the main difference between SafeLoop and Life360?
Life360 is built around continuous, real-time location sharing plus a broad set of driving, item-tracking and protection services. SafeLoop is built around zones that only run on a schedule, with members seeing exactly what guardians see, and adds a school pickup console for participating schools.
Can I switch from Life360 to SafeLoop?
Yes. Set up your SafeLoop family, add your kids (they join by scanning a QR code on your phone), and recreate the places that matter as scheduled zones. Paid subscriptions for either app are managed and cancelled in your Apple App Store or Google Play account.
